Rohingya's Right to Education in Malaysia

The Rohingya are a Muslim Ethnic group of the Northern Rakhine State of Western Burma who fled what Amnesty International has called human rights violations since the 1970s. In order to escape discrimination and racist attacks many have taken refuge in jungles and abandoned places.

However, Rohingya children cannot enrol in local schools because Malaysian law does not recognise their refugee status. The UNHCR has set up several small community schools which try to give these children a proper and structured education.

As far as the Malaysian Government is concerned, there are no refugees in Malaysia - the law does not recognize asylum seekers and refugees - instead they are treated as "illegal immigrants"

This is completely outrageous!

Is society so complacent and uncaring?
