Scraps of equality, none for the poor in Bangkok
Social assistance in Bangkok doesn't seem to work, regardless of what the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration says. I feel that the human capital systems (or lack of it) and uncontrollable capitalism procreates horrors of urban poverty. Rather than lay down the mechanism of social work and instilling compassionate values into society, some parties are blaming the syndicates for creating an industry amongst the poor people - an industry of begging. Even with that, the BMA cannot deny that there are huge pockets of marginalisation of the poor in existence.
Sustainable reforms towards the urban poor does not take place with charity hand-outs. It starts when the urban poor are given the skills and opportunities to be part of the solution, rather than the problem.
